When transparency becomes a tool of control and clarity is the language of the censor, secrecy becomes an act of survival and subtlety, the most radical form of dissent.
What Manifiesto del murmullo proposes is the secret intimacy of an oil-on-canvas still life and of a violated, silenced body. By distorting the image and expanding its boundaries to an immense scale, it bursts into a profound and pain-filled tapestry. A type of pixel emerges, spilling over to transform into a new calligraphy of resistance. The organic abstraction becomes a mass of dots that evades the radar of the obvious. It is the strategy of mimicry: dissolving the message to save it, camouflaging the truth within the paint’s material so that only those who need to can decipher it.
This work engages directly with the concepts of steganographic pixelation and data concealment in the digital realm. Unlike traditional pixelation—which destroys visual information to censor or protect identity—steganography modifies the least significant bits of an image’s pixels to encode a message, a file, or a secret secondary image. Visually, the genius of this method lies in the fact that the carrier image appears completely normal to the naked eye, since the variations in pixel color are so subtle that they are imperceptible to the human eye. Only through specific software tools, extraction algorithms, or the analysis of digital noise in bitmaps can the hidden content camouflaged beneath the surface of the seemingly innocuous image be revealed.
The exhibition features Ana Gallardo’s latest works, produced between 2025 and 2026, which propose a manual of resistance. A cryptic, secret text—incomprehensible to the algorithm—that defends the right to obscurity, to concealment, and to the eloquence of silent things. For there are existences that, in order to remain alive, must dwell in the shadows, and those shadows constitute a place of struggle and revolution.
